Is College Worth Anything Anymore?

Is College Worth Anything Anymore?

There’s a plan that most people work with, and while sure- the actual details do deviate a lot they can be boiled down into three steps: Finish High School. Go to College. Get a job is mentioned college degree field. What’s Wrong Here?

Really, It’ll Keep Me Off the Streets (Rants Ahoy!)

Really, It’ll Keep Me Off the Streets (Rants Ahoy!)

Strange Butterfly- No relation to the text, at all.

Well then, it’s been a bit since my last full-blown rant fest hasn’t it?  Well, wonder in amazement whilst I break that streak right here.

I’ve been applying for some work around here, and honestly- I’ve learned a couple things about it.  Namely, that I really hate resumes and those application forms.  My resume is sparkly and pretty for the work I normally do, and it gets me hired in my normal field.

Which, obviously- is exactly what a resume is intended for.

However, and this is where I run into a bit of a wall, applying that to another field is a pain. Mind you, not impossible (also why I don’t think I would ever hire a writer).  I’m looking for something new, while I’m planning on continuing what I do now- I want something more typical* also (I’m greedy like that).

I also realized that while I do have experience, it’s a pain to explain said experience when I work for myself (technically).  I feel honestly a tad odd about the whole ‘previous employer / may we contact’ type thing.  I’m my previous employer, so I’d very much like you contact me (and you know, hire me).  But, that is obviously *not* what they mean.  I just feel ‘not right**’ about putting in ‘no’ or ‘yes’ (they need an ‘other’ choice).

While sure, I could just do more of what I’m doing now- it’s not necessarily the money part I’m entirely worried about (although, bonus that it is).  One of the main problems is being an ‘internet type’ is that I also get paid on the net 30 schedule.  Which translates into ‘once a month’ which is peachy, but with that and the hours- I really need a bit more schedule steadiness.  I’m not even going to get into the fact I may actually be getting more anti-social than I already was (impressive though).

Right now, my schedule is nuts which I am okay with.  However, having something specific would be insanely nice.

*Translates roughly into: I need human contact.

**I’m awesome with those descriptive terms..
