Is College Worth Anything Anymore?

Is College Worth Anything Anymore?

There’s a plan that most people work with, and while sure- the actual details do deviate a lot they can be boiled down into three steps: Finish High School. Go to College. Get a job is mentioned college degree field. What’s Wrong Here?

Life is Like a Crappy Box Of Chocolates, You Keep Biting At it Until You Find Something You Like

When I was younger I wrote essays for fun, no subject went untouched and I really did enjoy researching and fact-finding missions.  This is horribly ironic when it came to my performance in school.  I, like many kids, twitched at the thought of tests and […]

Where’s the Scholarship for Those April 2nd People?

Ms.. Cleaver is marching happily back to higher learning. To get me some of that book learnin’ everyone talks about. Which alone makes me all sorts of happy due to my desire to collect degrees like some people collect baseball cards.

You see, I’ve found that the classes I’ve taken really don’t add up to a hill of beans when it comes to my field. Yet, I can wax for hours on philosophy and rip your mental state a new one (it’s for science!).

There seems to be a college scholarship for some rather… zany and odd ball reasons. If I had looked hard enough I may have just found one that told me to write an essay on why “Being born on the same day as Charlemagne and Casanova Totally Rocks’ (for the record, I totally was).

There were quite a few.. Questionable reasons they were giving out money, not so much as doubtful they are true, but more so giving people money for living suck lives (it’s okay, some of them qualified me, so seriously- I can say that).

They also had some quite funny essay contests, from tea’s benefits to a few other..

My favorite?

For you Ayn Rand fans: There’s an Atlas Shrugged Essay contest.

Okay, I was going to enter this. Admittedly, I was.

Irony sake’ type arguments get me in a tizzy. I’m resisting the urge, but am not sure for how much longer that will be possible. I mean I can quantify Ayn Rand’s social philosophy in two word: Loose Existentialism. That’s really it, her philosophy all rolled into a happy little ‘from Sartre’ like box. (Small exaggeration, yes).

I would just need to branch off from that a tad though.
