Cold, Long Nights in New England

I’ve lived in New England my entire life. I’ve grown accustomed to the sights, sounds, and smells of the area long ago. It is a beautiful area, especially around this time of year. The trees changing, the vibrant colors and the cool days and nights are the perfect excuse to stay in bed for just a little longer.

Living on the Connecticut shoreline for your life shows you a lot of beauty. Long Island Sound is just down the street form me, I sometimes walk and just stare out at the water. Guilford is a short drive away. The area at this time of year is a pleasure to just take a walk with loved ones, to appreciate the stunning colors all around. The world is on fire with beautiful shades of reds, yellows, and orange.

For an artist, this is heaven.

Although, I’ve recently come to realize how far removed this area is compared to the rest of the country. Just going one state over, it’s already like another world. I’m used to the quiet, the only real hustle or bustle is the leaves or the occasional car.

The center of my town is old fashioned, a callback to the 1950′s. The style of the buildings there are simplistic, but still pleasing to the eye. On the surface, it’s very quaint.

I was recently reminiscing over all the changes to my area since I was young. There used to be a candy store in the center of town, it closed quite a few years ago. Us kids would all go in after school, feeling so devious for spending our lunch money on chocolate and soda. Times have changed quite a bit since then.

Skipping class in high school to walk quickly all of ten feet to grab coffee.

I hate to day this, but I do miss that time. Maybe, just a little bit.
